Lifestyle Changes, Necessary for Weight Loss - Matthew Herman
Develop healthy daily habits based on eating everything in moderation instead of following a strict diet . Making a lifestyle change will bring better weight loss.

Is permanent weight loss possible? Absolutely! But you aren’t going to find weight loss success in a strict diet, a bottle of weight loss pills or extreme calorie restriction. These temporary solutions simply don't work. Long term weight loss and maintainance requires a change in your habits and attitude.

Get thin quick schemes are a dime a dozen. They are usually costly plans that promise fast weight loss. They work too – temporarily. The problem with fast weight loss plans is they are not long-term solutions to losing weight and keeping it off. Strict food plans actually promote yoyo dieting, which can cause health risks and deter you from your weight loss goals.

To achieve permanent weight loss and avoid yoyo dieting, you need to understand the difference between a diet and a lifestyle change.

Why Dieting Doesn't Work

A diet is usually defined by a specific length of time, such as six weeks. A diet is restrictive and you can become obsessive about counting calories and tracking your progress on the scale. Diets involve taking over-the-counter drugs, restricting calories, avoiding specific food groups, etc. Diets are difficult to stick to and dieters feel guilty when they “cheat.” Additionally, dieters fail 95% of the time and regain any weight they initially lost. Its hard to excluse food groups over a long period of time.

How Lifesytle Changes Work

A lifestyle change, on the other hand, is the idea of making healthier choices one decision at a time for the rest of your life. There’s no need to avoid certain food groups or feel guilty about eating a cookie. The key to managing a lifestyle change is to eat everything in moderation. Make healthy eating choices whenever possible and limit yourself to a few bites of foods you can’t resist.

Making a lifestyle change also means including daily physical activities. This should include intentional exercise as well as generally being more active throughout the day. You don’t have to spend hours a day at the gym to achieve permanent weight loss. A 30-minute walk along with some strength training a few days a week is all you really need to do. More importantly, make exercise fun so you'll stick to it. If you dread working out, you are less likely to keep doing it.

You should feel good about your lifestyle changes and enjoy feeling more energetic while losing weight slowly and permanently without ever having to diet again.

I decided to make healthy lifestyle changes and I have lost 15 pounds in 7 weeks. I feel healthier and I have more energy. I also exercise regularly. I drink water, instead of soda and sugar-laden juices-I eat salads, instead of burgers and fries-I drink fruit smoothies, instead of ice cream and candy bars. I decided to change my diet drastically instead of making small steps, but my blood pressure has lowered and so has my diabetes status. Just keep up the good work because you are making the best decision of your life!

There is no way around a lifestyle change if someone wants to lose weight permanently. It doesn't make sense to apply short term solutions (like diet pills) to a long term problem (losing weight permanently).

I think that you shouldn't put any pills on the internet because when people take the pill, they might loss the weight but, what are you going to do when you gain the wieght back? You will have to rely on the pills and thats how people can get addictted to drugs because a weight loss pill is a drug. So I encourage people not to take weight loss pills.

personally, i think, and KNOW i can lose the weight.. it's just, if i dont see results like immediately, then i'll probably quit the good excercise/dieting i've been making.. and also, i honestly dont really understand HOW to make lifechanges.. to me, it seems like the same thing as dieting.

great article-wish id read it two years ago, but i guess it took some failed dieting attempts to really learn the lesson myself. for me i am just sick of being obsessed with both weight and food- it takes up all my mental energy and i just want it to stop. so ive been implementing healthy stratgies such as taking the time to make delicous soups and salds and increasing my activity. , i really also wanted to respond to the guy who said that to him a lifestyle change sounded like a diet--- the trick is to answer this one simple question- is this something you can do forever-for example i now love my healthy salads and feel no sense of deprivation at the thought of having a salad a day for the rest of my life.
with excercise i was trying to go five times a week because i have sedentary life-- but some i days i enjoy it alot of days i dont and anyway im not sticking to it- so ive now decided to start with 30 min walk everyday- which i do enjoy and go to gym 3 times a week--- i think ill enjoy that and its something i can see myself doing for the rest of my life-- who knows i might end up loving excercise!!
so really u just have to be resoucefull and creative-- find good low cal cookbooks, find ways to keep urself feeling full, satsified and not deprived and not obsessed with food--
and allow urself the odd treat- becuase that what normal healthy thin people do
hope that helps

I think this article is very true. I do think you can kick start any weight loss plan by taking healthy natural diet pills BUT MUST incorporate a lifestyle change that includes healthy food choices and exercise along with them. The goal is to loose weight and get into shape. Once you see some weight loss you'll get excited about it and should try to continue the changes without the diet pills. They are a quick option to start but you must be dicipline yourself and use them wisely. Lifestyle change is the only way to lasting success.
