Talk to Doctor About Weight Loss

Ask for Help to Set Goals and Plan Meals

Obesity is a sensitive subject for many overweight people, but it is important o discuss weight loss with your doctor so he can rule out any health problems and help you.

Talking to your doctor about weight loss can be a tricky thing. You’ve probably tried a lot of different weight loss plans and easy ways out before even considering taking to your doctor about losing weight. But the time may come when you need to ask for help. Trying to lose weight without support almost always fails.

What to Expect at a Doctor Visit

The most important thing is to have a full physical with blood work and a urine sample on your first visit. The doctor will want to rule out any conditions that might be causing you to hold onto the weight or even gain weight, such as heart disease, Diabetes, an under active thyroid, liver problems, depression, or metabolic syndrome.

With a clean bill of health your doctor can discuss weight loss methods that may be effective. Be prepared to talk about your family history, what weight loss methods you’ve tried on your own, any supplements you are taking and how much exercise you get. Being open and honest is crucial so the doctor can set up a realistic weight loss plan for you at your personal fitness level.

What Can Doctors do to Help with Weight Loss?

Weight loss plans will be different for everyone based on their personal fitness level and how much weight they need to lose. Doctors have a variety of methods to help you lose weight. He may discuss:

  • Meal plans
  • Calorie consumption
  • Supplements
  • Exercise
  • Goal Setting
  • Realistic goal weight
  • Diet pills
  • Reduce Stress
  • Antidepressants
  • Gastric Bypass surgery (in extreme cases)

What Doctors Can’t do to Help with Weight Loss

If you continue to look for the magic pill that will help you drop 10 pounds overnight or get to your goal weight faster, odds are it will only set back your weight loss until you realize that slow and steady weight loss through diet and exercise is the only way to permanently lose weight. The doctor is not going to be able to prescribe a miracle pill to help with weight loss. He won’t have advice on how to get to your goal faster. Going to the doctor is not going to be the miracle answer you have been longing for.

He can, however, set you in a healthy direction to lose weight naturally without risking your health, doing damage to body organs or finding yourself on a yoyo diet. Also be sure to scheduel frequent follow-up visits so the doctor can monitor your weight loss progress.

In my opinion it's all about how you live your life. Same as in my narration of "The TWO most important <a href="http://weightcalc.com/weight-loss-tips.html" title="weight loss tips" target="_blank">Weight loss tips</a>" that you can find at weightcalc.com, the weight loss should brief to just two major things: Lifestyle and Confidence. Still this is a useful article.
